The wines from Fronsac are ideal with hearty meat dishes or hard cheeses. Another characteristic of wines from this area is that storage potential is enormous. To the west of Pomerol and Saint Emilion lie the Fronsac vineyards. Merlot is the main grape, but Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon also play an important role in the wines from Fronsac. The soil consists of clay and limestone.
