DOCG with a black cockerel
The black cockerel is important to many true wine lovers. Especialy since 1991 when some Californian winery forced the producers of Chianti Classico to sell their DOCG’s without the black cockerel (Gallo Nero) logo in de United States.
The black cockerel logo has been on DOCG wines since 1920. The Californians who forced the Italian artisans to remove their proud mark from the Chianti Classico bottles started their wine business in 1933. Some say the Californian winery gave Californian wines bitterness. We don’t think that’s true. There are lots of decent wine farmers in California. Unfortunately there are some unpleasant wineries as well. Or at least one. One that started in 1933.
